Known for its self-balancing two-wheeled vehicles, Segway has just released a three wheeled version. Its called the Segway SE-3 Patroller and has one wheel in the front, two in the back.

Designed for their biggest customers, which are law enforcement agencies and private security companies, the three wheeled Segway is more stable than the two wheeled version, along with offering more storage space, and higher visibility to deter criminal activity.

Selling for a suggested retail price of just under 12 thousand dollars, the electric powered SE-3 model also comes equipped with sirens, emergency lights, and a rider-detection technology that turns off the motor when there isn't anyone aboard the vehicle.

According to statistics from Segway, there are more than 15 hundred police departments and public safety organizations that utilize Segway vehicles, but the original model never took off on the mainstream market the way that the developers had imagined.

Instead the products was embraced by a certain niche market of Segway polo players and urban tour groups, while also becoming a new tool for law enforcement.

The SE-3 is reportedly only available to the public safety market for now.
